4200 - High-Rise Construction II - Assistant Site Superintendent

Job Title: Assistant Site Superintendent
Reports To: Site Superintendent
Department: Construction II

Position Summary

The Assistant Superintendent will support the project Superintendent with overseeing the Construction Project.

Responsibilities:

• Assist the Superintendent in providing on-site management, administrative and technical direction on the construction project site.
• Support the Superintendent with the development implementation of “look ahead” schedule to achieve the project design, budget, and schedule objectives.
• Assist the Superintendent with the implementation of Smartcentres Construction Management II Inc. Safety Program to create a safe work environment throughout the jobsite and adhere to the safety and record keeping requirements.
• Contribute to the development of a construction plans to manage subcontractor activities.
• Participate in construction meetings with consultants and subtrades.
• Review subtrades work and complete inspections to assess construction compliance with design requirements, specifications and quality standards.
• Complete a daily summary report including details regarding health and safety, employees on site, daily progress.
• Supervise and coordinate field inspections with consultants and city staff.
• Order and schedule concrete and rebar deliveries.
• Schedule, coordinate and supervise building envelope and rough-in installations.
• Monitor compliance with project construction schedule, identify schedule risks and opportunities to accelerate construction schedule.
• Advise Superintendent of potential constructability or coordination difficulties while assisting in resolving such conflicts.
• Mentor junior staff
• Other duties as requested.

Academic/Professional Requirements:

• Educational and experience requirements include a Construction related university degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.

Required Skills/Experience:

• A minimum of 5 years’ construction high rise experience
• Proven leadership ability
• Strong knowledge of structural drawings
• Foresight to predict problems before they develop.
• Advanced knowledge of various construction disciplines, safety regulations, scheduling, cost control, quality control, engineering drawings and other documents.
• Knowledge of Tarion guidelines.
• Proven ability to achieve “building occupancy’ with city officials.
• Health and Safety certificates (WHMIS, Working at Heights, Basics to Supervision)
• Ability to assume responsibility, interface, and clearly communicate with others.
• Enthusiasm for challenge and new initiatives.
