Job Title: Accountant, Operations Accounting (Penguin Group of Companies)
Reports To: Manager, Operations Accounting

Position Summary
Provide confidential accounting support for a specific group of companies.
Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Assist in the completion of monthly financial reporting and related working papers and schedules for Penguin Pick-Up and/or a portfolio of properties;
• Prepare and enter month-end journal entries and bank reconciliations and other adjustments as required;
• Prepare monthly bank analysis reports;
• Process monthly revenue billings and maintain all customer files;
• Reconcile POS sales data and book revenues and taxes;
• Reconcile courier invoices with corresponding revenues and process payables;
• Ensure all accounting records are kept up to date within guidelines established by generally accepted accounting principles and by the company and/or its partners/co-owners;
• Assist in the reconciliation, and maintain a full understanding of all balance sheet and income statement accounts, including detailed variance analysis where required;
• Assist in the reconciliation of GST, QST and PST accounts and monthly filings;
• Assist in the preparation of monthly cash distributions and funding requests;
• Complete and submit Yardi setup forms;
• Assist accounts payable associates in the processing of payables as needed;
• Assist in the processing of daily deposits and cash receipts as needed;
• Additional property-related accounting tasks as assigned.

• Process Improvement and Innovation – The expectation is that the Accountant will continually address any changes and/or improvements that present themselves on a day-to-day basis. The Accountant will also strive, continuously, to not only improve the accounting and administrative process, but also ensure that appropriate respect and attention is given by each member of his/her team to the other functional areas of the company, our auditors, our tenants, and outside vendors with which they must coordinate to accomplish their mission.
• Relationship Management – The expectation is that the Accountant will take ownership of the management of all relationships outside of the company, including partners/co-owners, auditors, tenants, and vendors.
Academic/Professional Requirements:
• Post-secondary education with an Accounting focus;
• Professional Accounting designation, or in the final stages of completion of designation (an asset but not required); or equivalent work experience.
Required Skills/Experience:
• Minimum 3 years of accounting and/or accounts payable experience;
• Advanced Excel skills;
• Previous exposure to Yardi system would be an asset;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate across all levels within and outside of the organization;
• Excellent organization and time management skills in dealing with changing priorities in a fast-paced environment;
• High attention to detail, ability to think critically;
• Able to work independently as well as part of a team;
• Able to exercise judgment, professionalism, and must always be able to maintain confidentiality.
